Just A Review, and Another Update

Onyx's story is just started and it just changed for the better. On Wednesday, August 14th, Onyx happened to get the attention of some friends of mine. They contacted me, and I rushed down to the store where they were waiting. There I saw a little black kitten taking as much attention as she could get all while being very loud.

In that moment, I decided that I was back in the rescue business. Something I had not done since before I moved here. The need was here, I just worried about the financial situation I was in. And when I decided to try getting back in it, there was some push back. But, there are 10 times as many stray and feral cats in my neighborhood now.

So, I made the choice. And Onyx came home with me.

I quickly setup Maggie's old crate with some fresh food, clean water and some bedding. Maggie and I made a quick trip to the store and bought a new litter box and some litter. And soon Onyx had a little comfortable quarantine bedroom of her own. Standard practice is two weeks of quarantine and limiting contact with any other animals.

Now, Maggie and Onyx have already become friends though their contact is limited. When ever Maggie comes in the house, she goes and checks on this little kitten. Onyx is eating well and cleaning up well. Initially, she had some sort of tar in her tail and paws. I have been able to clean that up and most of it is gone.

Onyx gets playtime with me twice a day where she is out of the crate. I use pet safe wipes to clean her fur and Onyx loves the interaction. She has been described as a Fuss-Pot by some friends across the pond. And their Smudgy has spent some time watching Onyx in her latest video. A cat watching a cat video on a laptop

Onyx's first and next appointment is for Thursday. And I will stream an update video on Twitch.tv/RestlessAnimalrescue after I get home and know more.

A new Youtube channel has been setup so videos will also be streamed there, as well. Youtube.com/restlesssanimalrescue-y5x

Onyx

The little black kitten is now named Onyx, even though we still do not know their gender.

Over the last couple of days, I’ve been getting Onyx out for some playtime, with Maggie sitting on the love seat nearby. Both Onyx and Maggie seem to like each other very much. However, I’m doing my best to prevent direct contact while Onyx is still in quarantine.

Onyx's first vet appointment is scheduled for next Thursday, where they will receive their first shots. If I haven’t managed to remove all the burrs from her fur by then, I will ask a nurse for assistance.

Tonight, during playtime, I gently scrubbed Onyx with pet-safe wipes, which were bought with a kind donation from a friend. Onyx enjoyed the experience; it was quite precious, like a happy baby in my arms.

I still do not have a weight for Onyx, but we need to work on getting her up to 3 lbs before September 13th. That’s the date scheduled for her spay surgery.

I will try to get a good portrait of Onyx tomorrow so she can have her own space in the album. Hopefully, I will also create her individual page by tomorrow evening.

Related to the website, I’ve made a lot of changes over the last couple of days. I moved the data to a database instead of having a static site, made the site multipaged, and added a contact and an about page so far. There’s more to come. I do this as a hobby, not as employment, so sometimes progress is slow.

That’s all for this update. Please bookmark our site and check back soon. Thank you to everyone who has helped so much already.

Little Black Kitten

Since I moved, I've been concerned about the number of feral cats in my neighborhood. However, my initial inquiries with locals about catching the cats to be vetted, neutered, and tagged were not well received, so I put this on the back burner.

In the meantime, the local population grew, and nothing else was done. I was waiting for the day when I was in a better financial position to deal with the issue humanely and carefully, but those better days seem far away.

Today, I was notified about a friendly kitten that was allowing people to handle it. I went to check, and the kitten was all purrs—but not much else. He or she is very skinny, so I'm active again. Currently, this little one is in quarantine at my house with food, water, litter, and bedding. The kitten has been wolfing down food hungrily. Next week, I'll be taking him or her to the veterinarian for shots, testing, and whatever else the vet recommends.

I will post images of the new kitten tomorrow after he or she adjusts to this new place.
